Attacker Identified By Rape Victim Through A Facebook Post

Liverpool – March 20, 2015 – A rapist who was already handed a life sentence for raping two women has been called into court once again after another victim had surfaced.
28-year old Shaun Hopkins was already serving a lifetime in jail for raping and abusing two women, 37 and 19, in Liverpool. But it is now known that the two women were not the only victims of the convicted rapist because another victim has recently come forward.
What’s interesting about the latest victim to speak out was that she had only identified her attacker after she had seen a post about him on Facebook. It had been almost ten years after the incident occurred in 2005 when they met in a bar. She did not tell anyone, not even her family because she fears embarrassment and disbelief. The woman also said that she thought it was her fault.
When asked to describe how she felt when she saw Hopkins’ image on Facebook, she says that it the experience had made it all true once again.
The event had greatly affected her as she could not sleep, eat and was crying all the time. She also said that she was in a horrible place and that she kept on having nightmares about it.
It truly is difficult for a victim who thinks she has moved on from the horrible experience to be reminded of it.
When she saw his photo on the internet, she said she did not believe it was happening but she still contacted the police the next day.
Hopkins was already sentenced April last year and with another victim speaking out, the court has gained permission from the other victims to use extracts of their statements detailing what they’ve been through.
The 37-year old victim, who was also attacked in 2005, said that she had trouble trusting men and had taken a long time for her to meet one. While the 19-year old thought that she was going to die when she was attacked last 2013.
The police said that Hopkins used extreme violence when he abused the victims.
